MBT’s Summer Repertory series' newest installment - called Winter Repertory Theatre - presents "The Fantasticks," is the longest-running theatrical production in the world, and with good reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry is an alluring story that is wildly entertaining. The musical's original off-Broadway production ran for 42 years and 17,162 performances and inspired musical theater across generations. A romantic comedy about two neighboring parents who build a wall between their houses in hopes that their apparent dislike will move their children to fall in love, The Fantasticks is a dreamy fantasy for all ages. It is an enchanting tale full of magic and moonlight, a tender coming-of-age story punctuated with some of musical theater's most memorable musical moments. The show's long-standing classics, including "Try To Remember" and "Soon, It's Gonna Rain," have been performed to great acclaim by the likes of Barbara Streisand, Harry Belafonte, Gladys Knight, The Brothers Four and American Idol finalists.
The show is under the direction of retired WWU Theatre Arts professor Maureen O’Reilly. The show opens on Tuesday, Feb. 14 and runs through Sunday, March 18. The shows start at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 2 p.m.for Sunday matinees.
