This biennial celebration of Chinese culture will highlight the Chinese musical tradition just in time for Chinese New Year. The performance is an invitation to the community to enjoy the diverse array of Chinese music, from instrumental to operatic, from rural to ceremonial. The performance will feature genres including Chinese symphony, traditional Peking opera and modern Chinese vocal, performed by Whatcom Symphony Orchestra, Weatern Washington University 160 member choir and Whatcom Community College Choir, the Vancouver, B.C. Chinese Music Ensembles, and guest performers, most renowned Peking Opera soprano from China Shanghai Peking Opera Troupes. Special guest performer Lucy Wu, a prominent, overseas Chinese Jinghu performer from Seattle, will perform a Chinese Jinghu concerto and Guilian Liu, a prominent, overseas Chinese pipa performer from Vancouver, will perform a pipa concerto, and special guest from Hawaii, famous soprano will perform a solo.
